Creating a Housing Listing

How to Create a Listing

Use listings to advertise housing opportunities, developments, programs, or housing-related resources on the PCHC portal. Listings are for public-facing availability and opportunities. 

Step-by-step instructions

Step 1. Log in to your portal account.
Step 2. Click DASHBOARD in the top menu.
Step 3. Click My Listings Manager. Admin or site manager users may also see Manage Listings.
Step 4. Click New Listing.
Step 5. The Listing Editor will open.
Step 6. Enter a clear Title. Use a title people will understand quickly.
Example: 2 Bedroom Apartment Available in Somerset
Step 7. Select the correct Organization. This connects the listing to the organization responsible for it.
Step 8. Select the correct Category. Choose the category that best matches the listing.
Step 9. Choose the Status. Use Draft while working. Use Active when it is ready to be public.
Step 10. Leave Owner Type as Property unless instructed otherwise.
Step 11. Enter the City and State.
Example: Somerset, KY
Step 12. Fill in any useful optional details, such as bedrooms, bathrooms, square footage, rent, deposit, and available date. Leave unknown fields blank.
Step 13. Check Featured only if the listing should receive extra visibility.
Step 14. Check Now Available only if the listing is currently available.
Step 15. Select any applicable Listing Tags. Tags help people filter and understand listings.
Step 16. Add the main description in the Listing Body. Use this area for text, links, headings, instructions, and listing details.
Step 17. Scroll below the Listing Body to the Manage Listing Images section. Click Add Images or drag image files into the drop area.
Step 18. Use Up, Down, or Remove to adjust listing images if needed.
Step 19. Click Save.
Step 20. Return to My Listings Manager.
Step 21. Confirm the listing appears in your list. Use Edit if you need to make changes.

Field explanations

Title

The name of the listing. Use something short and clear, such as “2 Bedroom Apartment Available.”

Organization

The organization responsible for the listing. If the correct organization is missing, your account may need to be verified with that organization.

Category

The type of listing. Categories help users browse and filter listings.

Status

Controls whether the listing is public-facing. Use Draft while working and Active when ready.

Owner Type

Currently used as Property mode. Leave this as Property unless you are instructed to change it.

City and State

The location shown on the listing. Use the city name and a two-letter state abbreviation, such as KY.

Bedrooms

The number of bedrooms. Leave blank if the listing is not bedroom-based.

Bathrooms

The number of bathrooms. Examples include 1, 1.5, or 2.

Sq Ft

Approximate square footage. Leave blank if unknown.

Rent

The monthly rent amount. Enter the number only, such as 850.

Deposit

The deposit amount. Leave blank if unknown or not applicable.

Available From

The date the listing is expected to be available. Use this only when the date is known.

Featured

Marks the listing for extra visibility or higher priority display.

Now Available

Marks the listing as currently available. Use only when the opportunity is available now.

Listing Tags

Additional filters that help people understand and find the listing.

Listing Body

The main description area. Use this for text, links, headings, application instructions, contact details, and other listing details.

Manage Listing Images

The image gallery manager below the listing body. Use it to upload, arrange, and remove listing images.

Note: Current public listing pages include Active and Pending listings. Use Pending carefully if the listing should not be visible yet.

Images and listing body

Important: Use the Listing Body for text, links, headings, and listing details. Use Manage Listing Images to upload, remove, and arrange listing photos.

What to include in the listing body

  • General description of the listing
  • Who the listing is for
  • Important features or amenities
  • Application instructions
  • Contact instructions
  • Eligibility notes, if applicable
  • Pet policy, if applicable
  • Utility information, if applicable
  • Accessibility notes, if applicable

How to add listing images

Step 1. Scroll below the Listing Body section until you see Manage Listing Images.
Step 2. Click Add Images.
Step 3. Select the image files you want to upload. You may also drag image files into the drop area that says Drop image files here.
Step 4. Review the uploaded images in the image list. Each image will appear as a thumbnail with its file path.
Step 5. Use Up and Down to change the display order. The first image in the list should be the main image you want people to see first.
Step 6. Use Remove if an image should no longer be attached to the listing.
Step 7. Click Save at the bottom of the listing editor to save the listing and image changes.

Image limit: The maximum image upload size is currently 20 MB. Only upload images you have permission to use.

After saving the listing

Step 1. Return to My Listings Manager.
Step 2. Confirm the listing appears in your listing list.
Step 3. Use Edit if changes are needed.
Step 4. Use the listing manager to update quick settings such as category, status, featured, and now available.
Step 5. Use Closed when the listing should no longer appear as an active opportunity.

Final review checklist

  • The title is clear.
  • The correct organization is selected.
  • The category is accurate.
  • The status is correct.
  • The city and state are filled in when applicable.
  • Rent and bedroom details are correct, if applicable.
  • The listing body explains what people need to know.
  • Images are uploaded through Manage Listing Images, arranged correctly, and approved for use.
  • Now Available is checked only when the listing is currently available.
Reminder: Listings advertise current opportunities. Housing inventory is managed separately and should be used for total housing capacity reporting.
